Guided answer
Provisional or complete specification?
When a provisional helps, and when it just delays the real work.
Either route works. Choose on strategy, not on cost.
A complete specification starts examination sooner. A provisional buys twelve months to add data and embodiments - which only helps if you use them.
- If a public event is imminent, file whichever you can file first.
- If further data will strengthen the case, a provisional plus a stronger complete specification later is often better.
- If speed to grant matters commercially, go straight to a complete specification and consider expedited examination.
