Guided answer

Can I get my patent application examined faster?

Rule 24C allows expedited examination for specific kinds of applicant and application. See whether yours qualifies and what it requires.

Use normal examination, on Form 18, within the rule 24B period.

Lower complexity

  • A request for examination on Form 18 must be made within 31 months of the earlier of the priority date and the filing date for applications filed on or after 15 March 2024 (rule 24B). Earlier applications keep the earlier period.
  • Rule 24C also covers applications in sectors the Central Government notifies and applicants qualifying under arrangements with foreign Patent Offices. Check the Patent Office's current notices before assuming you do not qualify.
  • If nobody requests examination in time, the application is treated as withdrawn (section 11B(4)).

The honest answer usually needs someone to look at your actual disclosure, your timeline and the prior art. That is a conversation, not an article.
